A Little More Steel, a Lot More Progress

A Little More Steel, a Lot More Progress

Work is ongoing at the Benghazi Iron and Steel Complex, with teams working on the foundations, steel structures and other areas of the future plant. At the same time, new equipment is arriving, which will allow work to continue to prepare for the next phases of installation.

Most of the foundation work is complete and workers are still pouring concrete and getting the rest of the areas ready. At Oxide Screen Station, teams have been constructing walls and columns and work has also begun on the foundations for the dust collection system. These are critical elements of the construction since they will support the buildings and equipment needed for future production.

Elsewhere, workers are installing heating pipes and steel supports in the Reformer Area, adding roof supports to the CDRI Warehouses, and continuing work on the control rooms and electrical substations. As several areas are worked on at the same time more of the planned structures are starting to take shape.

The site has also received the Reduction Furnace Ventilation Ring, a major piece of equipment to be used in the furnace system. Its arrival necessitated careful transportation and handling and the team can now start preparations to install it. Another major component, the Top Gas Scrubber, is expected to arrive next and will help cool and clean gas leaving the reduction furnace during production.

This progress has been possible thanks to the engineers, workers and contractors who spend their days moving materials, preparing different areas and organising deliveries of equipment. The work is moving with construction taking place across the site and teams are in regular communication.

There's still a lot of work to be done before production can begin, however, including the rest of the construction and equipment installations. Meanwhile, Tosyali-SULB’s teams continue to operate across the complex, getting each area ready for the next phase of the project.
