Work continues at Tosyali-SULB’s new iron and steel complex near Benghazi, with construction teams making progress in different parts of the site. Workers continued building foundations, constructing steel structures and preparing facilities that will eventually support production. New equipment and materials arrived as well so that the teams could continue their work.

It takes time to build a project of this magnitude, especially as so many different facilities have to be ready before production can start. Along with the main production areas, the complex will need control rooms, electrical systems, storage buildings and maintenance facilities. All this is developed under the same project, and work has been done in different areas at the same time.

Much of the recent activity has been in the area of concrete foundations and structures that will support the plant’s equipment. The team completed the casting of the walls at the Air Separation Unit, and other areas of the facility continued to progress.

Work has also been ongoing around the Main Control Building and electrical substation where teams have been preparing the foundations and structural supports. Elsewhere in the complex workers have been installing steel beams, piping and columns. Further activity has been seen in the Ironmaking Area, Product Warehouse and Reformer area with more of the structures and equipment being put in place.

Meanwhile, the smaller buildings surrounding the site are also starting to take shape. They are control rooms, offices, maintenance buildings, electrical facilities. Once the complex is operational, employees will use these areas to oversee production, service equipment and perform their daily duties. They need to be ready now, as part of ensuring the plant has everything it needs when it comes time to start production.

Another welcome development was the arrival of a consignment of equipment and construction materials. Teams have continued working on various areas of the project with new materials arriving and construction underway. Engineers, technicians, supervisors and construction workers all participate, each working in his own field but alongside the other teams. Some are laying the ground and foundations, others are raising structures or installing equipment.

The next phases will see construction continue with more buildings and equipment being installed. The idea is to prepare the various parts of the plant to work in concert with each other in the future. Work continues by the teams to turn the site near Benghazi into Tosyali-SULB's new iron and steel production complex.
